How do I qualify for coverage?
All appliances and systems must be in good working order at the time coverage becomes effective and must be properly maintained throughout the coverage period.
What appliances are covered?
Refrigerator, Range/oven/cook top, Dishwasher, Clothes washer & dryer, Built-in microwave oven, Garbage disposal and trash compactor, Sump pump, Garage door opener, Central vacuum system.
What home systems are covered?
Plumbing system, Ductwork, Interior Electrical System, Air Conditioning/Heat Pump System, Heating System/ Built-in Wall Unit, Water Heater (owned).
What other coverage is available?
Swimming Pool & Spa Equipment and Well Pump coverage can be purchased separately for an additional premium
When does coverage begin?
Generally, coverage takes effect 10 days after the warranty is purchased. The exception to this rule is if the property in question is being purchased and you buy the warranty prior to the closing. In this case, we waive the 10 Day Waiting Period.
How long does the coverage last?
We offer 6 or 12 month terms. The term of the agreement will be noted on your Certificate. Coverage can also be renewed by contacting RESRx.
Are there maximum limits on the policy?
Yes. Up to $10,000 for covered Systems and $5,000 for covered Appliances.
Are there any specific product limits?
Yes. The following items have specific maximum limits:
- $3,000 per covered Air Conditioning and/or Heat Pump System
- $1,500 per covered Hot Water or Steam circulating system
- Swimming pool/Spa equipment in excess of 12 years of age is limited to $400 maximum repair allowance
- For Appliances that are over 5 years old that cannot be repaired, we offer up to $250
- For Systems that are over 5 years old that cannot be repaired, we offer up to $500
What is the most important thing I need to know about making a claim?
If you have a problem with any of the covered products, you must contact the Claims Administrator prior to doing any repairs. Our Claims Administrator is there to help you. Unauthorized repairs will not be covered.
Who does the customer contact in the event of a claim?
Customers should contact the Claims Administrator at 1-877-744-2301. For ease of service, have your contract available for reference.
How long will it take before an authorized service repair centre goes out to the residence?
A technician will be dispatched to schedule an appointment within a reasonable time frame during regular business hours (M-F 8am-5pm). Contact is typically made within 3 hours. Special effort will be made to expedite service in emergency situations.
Can the customer choose the repair centre?
We prefer to use a technician within our network since they have already been approved. If the customer has a preferred service technician, they must first request this to the Claims Administrator for approval prior to work being done. Unauthorized repairs will not be covered.
Parts and Labour?
Yes - Parts and Labour are covered.
Do the repairs come with a guarantee?
Yes, we guarantee that the quality of the work meets the customer’s standards.
If the product is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, would coverage apply?
The manufacturer’s warranty is considered to be primary coverage. We will pay for covered repair expenses in excess of the manufacturer’s warranty up to the limits of this plan.
Are annual maintenance service calls covered under this plan?
No. This plan specifically covers the expenses of Appliance and/or System breakdowns. You are responsible for maintenance.
Are there any coverage exclusions?
Yes, as with any contract, there are a number of exclusions and limitations that apply – please refer to the certificate wording for a full list of terms, conditions, and exclusions.
The customer has two fridges (stoves, etc.). Are they both covered?
Only 1 of each type of item is covered. If the customer has more than 1 of the same appliance, coverage is limited to the first product for which they request repair service.
I purchased the Swimming pool / Spa Equipment coverage. Is there coverage for the swimming pool itself?
No. Coverage is limited to components and parts of the circulation pump and circulation pump controls and gauges, motor, filter tanks, heaters, gaskets, relays, impellers, back-flush valves and non-concrete encased plumbing lines running above ground to and from the swimming pool.
Is there a limit on the number of times an Appliance or System can be fixed?
Repairs will be made only twice (per covered product).
If the furnace breaks down during the winter, is there coverage for alternate living expenses (ex. Hotel)?
- In the event of a failure of the primary source of heat, there is coverage for reimbursement of alternate accommodations in a hotel while the repair or replacement is being carried out.
- Coverage maximum – $100/day, $500 total maximum/incident.
- Be sure to call the Claims Administrator for pre-approval of work and additional expenses.
LUMBING SYSTEM COVERAGE
Leaks and breaks in water, drain, gas, waste or vent lines, toilet tanks, bowls, toilet wax rings, seals, and mechanisms (builder's standard is used when replacement is necessary). Leaks and breaks in valves for shower, tub and diverter, angle stops, risers and gale valves; permanently installed sump pumps (ground water), built-in bathtub whirlpool motor or pump assemblies.
PLUMBING SYSTEM EXCLUSIONS
Stoppages, collapse of, or damage to water, drain, gas, waste or vent line caused by freezing or root damage.Faucets and fixtures, bathtubs and showers, shower enclosures and base pans, sinks, septic tanks, water softeners, pressure regulators. Damage to the plumbing system caused by inadequate or excessive water pressure. Flow restrictions in fresh water lines caused by corrosion or chemical or mineral deposits. All other damage to sewage ejector pumps, holding or storage tanks, saunas or steam rooms, hose bibs, lead drain lines or lead pipes.
OWNED WATER HEATER (GAS OR ELECTRIC) COVERAGE
All Components and parts that affect the operation of the Product, including circulating pumps.
OWNED WATER HEATER (GAS OR ELECTRIC) EXCLUSIONS
Solar water heaters and components, holding or storage tanks, noise, vents, flues, energy conservation unit, physical damage to external covering, expansion tank, drain pan and piping, dip tube, pressure reducing valve, internal flue and baffle, tank, tempering valve, water piping or any failure related to corrosion or mineral deposits.
Ducts from heating or cooling Products to their point of attachment at registers or grills.
Insulation, asbestos-insulated ductwork, dampers, or improperly sized ductwork.
INTERIOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COVERAGE
All Components and parts, including interior wiring, electrical panels, switches, outlets, receptacles and built-in exhaust fans.
INTERIOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM EXCLUSIONS
Fixtures, including ceiling fans, doorbells, alarms, intercoms, garage doors, aluminum wiring, inadequate wiring capacity, circuit overloading, power failure, power surge, and direct current (D.C.) wiring or components.
AIR CONDITIONING AND/OR HEAT PUMP SYSTEM COVERAGE
All Components and parts that affect the cooling operation of the Product which provide airflow through central ductwork, including evaporative cooler. Covers one (1) standard residential-type cooling system and the cooling
and/or heating functions of the outdoor unit and interior air handler, which can be comprised of one (1) standard residential condensing unit or one (1) heat pump condensing unit for an outdoor unit up to 5 tons single phase, 240
volts; and one (1) air handler and associated parts for an indoor unit.
AIR CONDITIONING AND/OR HEAT PUMP SYSTEM EXCLUSIONS
Geothermal systems, condenser casings, electronic air cleaners, window units, non-ducted wall units, water towers, humidifiers, roof jack or stands, condensing or evaporative cooler pads, flues, vents, improperly sized air
conditioning unit, chillers, clogged drains or lines, condensation leaks, field wiring, refrigerant tubing, hanging units, field piping and any fee incurred for the lowering of or the elevation of a rooftop unit.
HEATING SYSTEM / BUILT-IN WALL UNIT (IF MAIN SOURCE OF HEAT TO PRIMARY RESIDENCE) COVERAGE
All Components and parts necessary for the operation of all permanently installed systems, air exchangers, or oil storage tanks located inside the Primary Residence only. Coverage is provided for one (1) standard residential
heating system up to 150,000 British Thermal Unit (BTU) input, or one air handler with up to 25 kW resistance heat, or one (1) boiler up to 400,000 British Thermal Unit (BTU) input.
HEATING SYSTEM / BUILT-IN WALL UNIT EXCLUSIONS (IF MAIN SOURCE OF HEAT TO PRIMARY RESIDENCE)
Any portable heating unit, solar heating systems, fireplaces and key valves, heat lamps, chimney, flues, vents, improperly sized heating system, air cleaners, field wiring, fire box, flue baffle, heat transfer modules, heating jacket
and trim, insulation, water piping, zone valves/dampers, any fee incurred for the lowering of or the elevation of a rooftop unit, gas piping upstream of shut-off valve, glycol solution or glycol units.
MAJOR HOME APPLIANCES COVERAGE
(b) Range/Oven/Cooktop (Gas or Electric);

B. Major Home Appliance Exclusions
(a) REFRIGERATOR EXCLUSIONS
Ice makers, ice crushers, beverage dispensers and related equipment, interior thermal shells, or freezers, which are not an integral part of the refrigerator.
(b) RANGE/OVEN/COOK TOP (GAS OR ELECTRIC) EXCLUSIONS
Clocks (unless they affect the function of the oven) and burner bowls. Sensi-heat burners will only be replaced with standard burners.
(c) GARAGE DOOR OPENER EXCLUSIONS
Garage doors, lost or misplaced remote controls.
(d) TRASH COMPACTOR EXCLUSIONS
Lock and key assemblies, removable buckets.
(e) CENTRAL VACUUM SYSTEM EXCLUSIONS
Conditions of inadequate capacity, cleaning accessories including hoses, powerheads, all non-installed items or clogged lines.
ROOF LEAK REPAIR COVERAGE
Roof repair due to water leakage occurring after closing date. Limited to repair of leaking area only to a maximum liability of $500. Water leaks must occur during coverage period to apply. This allowance is to be paid towards
repair, not replacement.
ROOF LEAK REPAIR EXCLUSIONS
Excludes gutters, drain lines, roof-mounted installations, leaks in any deck or balcony, or leaks which result from or are caused by any of the following: missing and/or broken shingles, tiles, damage due to persons walking or
standing on the roof, construction or repairs not performed in a work-man like manner, failure to perform normal roof maintenance or acts of God such as fire, tornado, hurricane, earthquake and lightning.
SWIMMING POOL EQUIPMENT and/or SPA EQUIPMENT COVERAGE
All components and parts of the circulation pump and circulation pump controls and gauges, motor, filter tanks, heaters, gaskets, relays, impellers, back-flush valves and non-concrete encased plumbing lines running above
ground to and from the Swimming Pool or Spa.
SWIMMING POOL EQUIPMENT and/or SPA EQUIPMENT EXCLUSIONS
Plumbing encased in concrete or underground plumbing and electrical lines, liners, light code violations, structural defects, solar heaters, cleaning equipment, pool sweeps, portable (inflatable) units and their respective
components, and any auxiliary motors and / or pumps.
WELL PUMP COVERAGE
Includes all parts and components of well pump utilized for interior water used in the main residence only.
WELL PUMP EXCLUSIONS
Excludes pressure and storage tanks, well casings, exterior electrical lines or piping, pulling pump, re-drilling or deepening of wells.
DEDUCTIBLE AND SERVICE CALL CHARGE
The Deductible is indicated in the declaration. You will be responsible to pay a service call charge amount equal to Your Deductible for each service call per Product, per occurrence, or the actual cost, whichever is less. The service
call charge is payable to the technician at the time of each visit.
LIMITS OF LIABILITY
The maximum amount We will pay in any consecutive twelve (12) month period, is:
- for List one and List three Products combined, ten thousand dollars ($10,000) in all for home systems; and
- for List two Products, five thousand dollars ($5,000) on all major home appliances; to a maximum aggregate amount of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000
Home Systems Sub-Limits
The maximum limits of liability provided for the following Home Systems Products, are as stated here:
- Three thousand dollars ($3,000) for any one (1) covered Air Conditioning and/or Heat Pump System; or
- Fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500) for any one (1) covered hot water or steam circulating system (under Your Heating System/Built-In Wall Unit);
- Swimming Pool and/or Spa equipment in excess of twelve (12) years of age is limited to four hundred dollars ($400) maximum repair allowance during the Coverage Period.
In the event that a failure occurs to a covered Product, please contact Us at 1-877-744-2301. An Authorized Repair Centre will be designated to perform the services. You will not be reimbursed for any service performed without prior authorization. Unauthorized repairs are not covered under the policy. Our customer service representatives are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
